Voter ID Laws

The law says that you are only allowed to vote if you are a citizen.  And then only once.

Why is it that the Obama Justice Department continues to block efforts to enforce existing law?

AUSTIN, Tex. — Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. is expected to enter the turbulent political waters of voting rights on Tuesday, signaling that the Justice Department will take an aggressive stance in reviewing new laws in several states that civil rights advocates say are meant to dampen minority participation in the national elections next year.

Can you imagine passing a speed limit law and then forbidding law enforcement from checking how fast you’re going in order to enforce said law?

Advil Cold and Sinus

I had occasion to shop for some cold medicine tonight; wife is sick.

When I went to purchase the Advil, the clerk informed me that I would have to show proof of identification.  See, it turns out that tweekers take the active ingredient in this medication and cook it into meth.  Sooooo, you need to present valid picture ID to purchase it.

Anyway, as the pharmacist dutifully entered my information in the anti-tweeker database, I was struck by two thoughts:

1. I wonder how all of the old, poor, young, illegal, rural, urban Democrats who don’t have IDs by the hundreds of thousands obtain medication?
2. By sheer luck, I happened to have my State required and issued identification papers; my driver’s license.

 

Good Intentions: Where They Lead

Immigration.

Boy, talk about a word that conjurers up a ton of emotions.

On the one hand, we have stories of “Irish Need Not Apply”.  On the other, heroic remembrances of a time gone by when determined folks would walk off a ship with barely a nickel to their name.  And die rich.

And now…well, now we have newscasts of drug runners, cartels and coyotes.  Fences and tunnels, arms deals and drug wars.

Ugly stuff this.  To be sure.

But when the drama and the histrionics have past and we have boiled away all that isn’t really truly important, what are we left with?  To me, in it’s simplest form, we are left with one single human being wanting to make a better life for himself.  His family.

We are left with that most American story of boots and straps and pull.  We cheer for the individualist.  We build a culture that applauds that individual.  And rewards him with adoration and, perhaps, wealth.

To me, that’s the American Dream.

Immigration Law

I’ve been living in Carolina for awhile now.  Today represents the 4,423rd consecutive day that I’ve left my property carrying my ID.

This includes 100% of my trips to the ice cream cone store.

Just sayin’.

Citizenship: What It Takes To Become An American Citizen

I’m always looking for great content to comment on.  I’m always watching TV listening for idea.  I have the radio on, waiting for the snippet that’ll lead to more and more thoughts for posts.  I troll through the news media; the big guys.

You know, Fox and The Wall Street Journal.  The NY Times and Reuters.  The Economist and KOS.

I KILL me!  The KOS, as if.

A long time ago I went to grab a soda from our break room at the office and saw an issue of the “Independent Weekly” in the corner.  Normally, I pass this by, but they had a cover that grabbed my attention.

I grabbed the copy and saved it for future blogging.  Tonight I’m cleaning out my stash and have realized the time has come to address the Indy.

We Did NOT Elect Republicans to Act Like Democrats!

Yo!  North Carolina Republicans [and, frankly, Republicans everywhere] we did NOT elect you to run around thinking that you can just treat people any ol’ way ya want.

Be consistent with the concepts of Liberty.

Confusion in Durham

It’s heating up.  And something has to be done.

We need strong leadership on the issue and we need it now.

Sadly, Obama isn’t gonna be the guy to do it.

1.  He simply doesn’t know HOW to lead.  Which, of course, has been my main complaint all along.

2.  He doesn’t WANNA lead right now because it’ll interfere with his election prospects.

So, it’s left to the states and the towns.

What This Election Tidal Wave DOESN’T Mean

We killed ’em!  The Democrats were soundly beaten and the message has been sent:

“Not here, not now, not this way”.

So what does it mean?  What does this roar of the people mean to the Republicans in DC?

Lemme tell ya what I think it DOESN’T mean.

Immigration and the Job Recovery

There is an interesting dynamic occurring as we come out of the recession.

And the lesson should be used to illustrate how we shape our economic policies going forward.

The story is the story of two recoveries:

1.  The recovery for native-born workers.

2.  The recovery for foreign-born workers.

Arizona Lawsuit Backlash

There can only be one reason why Obama is suing Arizona:  To win votes in upcoming elections.

The law is wildly popular.  It mirrors Federal law except when it comes to profiling.  Arizona restricts it.  The Feds don’t.

But whatever the reason, it’s becoming increasingly clear to Americans that Obama is more concerned with his image than he is with fixing the problems facing the nation.
